Dear NYS EMS Community:

You may already be aware that beginning in 2015 Stroke Center hospitals will be required to report on five measures directly related to EMS:

1.     Did EMS Perform the Cincinnati Pre-Hospital Stroke Assessment as outlined in State EMS Protocol?

2.     Did EMS establish an onset of signs/symptoms?

3.     Did EMS notify the receiving hospital prior to arrival at the hospital of the findings of #1 & #2 and that Stroke is suspected?

4.     Was a PCR showing the pre-hospital assessment, findings, and treatment of a stroke provided to the hospital upon patient arrival?

5.     Did the hospital active its Stroke Team/Protocol based on the information from EMS, or wait until after the patient was in the ED?

As this reporting is meant to be a quality – not punitive – initiative, the Stroke Program here at the DOH will be giving a webinar presentation specifically targeted at the EMS community to help them understand better the system of stroke care in NYS and how the data from quality initiatives such as this is used on the local, state, and national levels.

This webinar is being provided with assistance from the Hospital Association of New York State (HANYS) on October 9th at 1:00pm.  Attached is the information from HANYS with supporting cover letter from Lee Burns.

Pre-registration is required through this link:         http://www.hanys.org/events/?event_id=969

We ask that you distribute this information through your networks so that we have the best possible participation from the EMS community.

Feel free to contact me with question.

Thank you.
